Meanwhile there are a bunch of events on the current time line that could actually drive fundamental improvement in spd adoption
Yes. I am looking at the roll architecture will play in the overall picture for the future, albeit not for the near future. One mid-sized auto is all we'd need for the near term to be profitable.
But architecture does not seem like an elusive dream based on Joe's comments in the last CC:
What do you hope to collect on architectural window replacements?
Our licensee in this area is actually projecting sales in the first year in the high tens of millions of dollars. And if we have a 10% or 15%, right now, it’s a 15% royalty, but I imagine in high volume, they’re gonna ask me to reduce the royalty to 10%. And depending on the volumes, they certainly would consider it. You’re talking about royalty levels that can make us clearly profitable even in the first year of the retrofit being on the market.
After that, we expect multiples of that. When I say we, the licensee that is producing and marketing this. And if you want their marketing materials, you can see it on the LTI AIT website.
Depending on what you would consider the "first year" I take that to mean 2026 well after the Retrowal announcement June 6, 2024. Jeff Besse, President and CEO of AIT Group, noted, "The patented RetroWAL system has already been successfully demonstrated in government office buildings and offers owners, facility managers, and tenants the ability over the course of a weekend to upgrade the windows in their space with minimal disruption."
I think these first demos have allowed for time to perfect the installation process, so 2026 isn't that far off.
Was interesting to read the Gentex Q3 info. Really doesn't sound like it's ready for prime time, although the description of the Corvette roof does sound like EC and not expecting it to be SPD. Joe's comment on the Corvette roof description being the best thing for a side to side comparison leads me to believe that they still have other GM vehicles looking at or already choosing SPD.
