OT - SAP

First I'm not sure what an article about SAP and MSFT is doing on the SUNW thread but here's my take on it.

From what I've heard SAP needs to maintain its position in the ERP market let alone start taking MSFT head on. Intel has been undertaking the largest installation of SAP in the world and I believe its still has not been placed it in production (a year or more late). To be fair their schedule was most likely aggressive. But then I'm sure they also spent the money to get it online in the timeframe (I remember an army of consultants from one of the big 6) so in the end they are still way behind.

Disclaimer: This is secondhand knowledge (former colleague told me) so if anyone has better info I would like to hear it (I no longer work at Intel and I never was involved with the SAP installation)

Also, SAP's joint spinoff with Intel has pretty much withered on the vine - can't remember the name now (was set up for e-commerce). Altogether I think that article was more PR hype than anything. Peoplesoft is going after this type of web presence and annnounced their game plan sometime back.
