Karen, I agree that the monetary savings would be tremendous--especially in a state with the population California has. California implemented this practice sometime in the late 1970s, I believe.

Ooops, I now recall that every 10 or 15 years, the driver is required to report to the DMV in person for purposes of an eye test, a new photo, and, probably as a formality or an afterthought (hey, as long as they have us captive, right? <g>), to take a written test consisting of about 5 embarrassingly simple questions.

Still, even with that, the savings is beyond substantial, I would think. - Holly
