GP:

Sorry I did not mean to imply major looming disasters. I had looked at a whole bunch of semi-equip 10-Ks and 10-Qs sometime in Jan-Feb trying to figure out who had the best shot of lasting through the downturn. Much of the limited knowledge gained at that time was biased by a lack of understanding of the true technologies <GGG>. But I would use some quick methods of counting out certain companies's prospects and the AMAT effect was one of the easy culling methods...

You likely know SFAM MUCH better than I do. Just scratch it off that "doomed" list.

If what you say is right at around all cash today - you could not go wrong buying it at these levels - "free" company!<g>. Of the the reasons you cite this one was the one that I knew of and what caused me to say hmm... - AMAT. I agree CMP is big but in the same way that I would hesitate to put money in a company counting on winning market share away from INTC, I likewise am hesitant to bet against AMAT. If they want to they have the resources to beat us all up <g>

Anyway that's why I indicated "maybe" - I guess I should have said <MAYBE> not <maybe> <g>...

(Also as you are likely aware of, there are a number of stocks at or near cash levels. Unless the world is coming to an end - big time recession - these are the "safest" stocks to buy in the Graham/Dodd metric. )

BTW and even more off topic have you seen a good big picture book on communications infrastructure technologies - the whole WDM, wireless and that sort of thing - things that people like LU and Tellabs and Ciena and their brethren sell? (I need to do a crash course understanding of some of the major themes in that arena.)
