earthlink guy: correction

It WAS one of the founding fathers of earthlink who was involved in the ponzi scheme directly. There are two earthlink guys and yesterday's LA Times article kept saying it was not THE earthlink guy and was not related to the company. latimes.com

The earthlink founder supposedly told everyone he had a daytrading program that could guarantee returns of 50-60%. He also licensed himself as an investment advisor. He was being investigated by the SEC for maybe a year. No one knew this at the time so he continued to get people to join his ponzi pyramid. Near the end as he got desperate for new funds to pay off previous investors he kept offering higher and higher rates of return. This guy even ripped off his friends. What in the world was this guy thinking? It's not like he was poor or anything. Who could believe the daytrading program bit either? I've noticed the more successful scams are always WAY out there. Revolutionary almost miracle like products, e.g. iveh $30 cure for aids... Things that you can't verify as it's a secret recipe, product in development, they don't want people to copy/steal their fabulous idea, "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;-) "... These were obviously educated successful people who believed the earthlink guy's story. Sad but it happens everyday.
