johnd -- Let me say upfront that I am short MSFT -- for the reasons in your post. I think MSFT is the cream of the cream in many respects, but due for a pullback. I went short after the earnings by the way (with some serious doubts about my own sanity).

I am posting because of what you said about the net stocks. If MSFT is the cream, the nets are something far less tasty. I don't think the markets will be on solid ground until the nets have been given a very ugly beating. That is about half way through happening now. I would be more inclined to reverse my position on MSFT after another week or so when the nets have been taught a lesson -- there is a difference between hype and great companies. The market has lost sight of this for the moment.
