Casey Cowell and analysts already gave you the answer: from the product point of view it was the right time for the deal. And that's what counts for shareholders in the end. I personally don't care about 1-3 months of sideward movement if the way thenafter is up, up, up...

And if you consider the business as the most important figure (and not the short-term stock price), I guess they DID have to announce the merger. You can't just sign a merger and hide it for publicity (at least that's what I guess).

So, sit back, relax and wait for the fruits of the deal that will come in my opinion...

I would be more nervous holding one of the Dow Stocks nowadays...
