You're right. There's no point in re-compressing an already compressed file. Many compression utilities also feature file splitting or file consolidation. File splitting could be used for moving a huge file with small media, while consolidation could quickly move a ton of tiny files in one shot. It sounds like his music files are both large and numerous, which will limit the usefulness of my suggestion. Cheers, PW. A link to using the direct cable connection feature of Windows was posted. This would probably be my first choice if both systems supported it. I've never had the luxury of two Win98 machines --- Usually a spiffy new system and some old boat anchor.
