JBE, it is just the unclarity of purposes, coupled with 'heroic' drive speeches, and including the unspoken premise that Russian war purposes could and should be found ad hoc, that makes me - humble pedestrian news reader - suspect that the Russian leaders are NOT out for a short victorious war. A long one, with alleged partial successes here and there, is much more useful for stabilizing your (domestic !) power. By instinct I strongly believe in a supremate of internal politics in this case, ... rather than a war fought for any military or strategic objectives. my half cent, MNI.
