I do not remember telling any anecdotes, Viktor. Which anecdote are you referring to?

But the U.S. didn't get to where it is by trying to imitate or satisfy the old world

The US got to where it is now by giving freedom of speech and action in the form of the American Dream to its people, who already were descended from a courageous, adventurous, and intelligent bunch of people - those who could leave the life they know and make another life in a virgin continent.

Many worry that they way it is going now is a radical break from this trend - liberties being restricted, half-baked arguments and from a trigger-happy administration, etc. We will all see what will happen in the future. The rest of the world is not only criticizing but they are concerned. Countries rise and fall. Those who stay at the top longest owe it to the willing support of other countries, not to their bullying power. The US has always been a "good" superpower so far but the current administration has very successfully changed that image in a surprisingly short period of time. This is what is worrying to many people.

Anyway, we are probably terribly off-topic here but I just wanted to say, in the nicest way possible, that craig's assessment of other nations' perception of the current US administration is quite correct.
