I though CPQ would stop trying to become DELL once Pfeiffer left. I guess old habits are hard to break. This sounds like the same old CPQ song.

December 21, 1999, 6:35 a.m. PT HOUSTON--Compaq Computer, the giant computer maker, and Inacom, which distributes and runs corporate computer systems, may join forces to provide tailor-made PCs, according to reports.
Compaq may buy some of the assembly and distribution capabilities of Omaha-based Inacom in an effort to cut expensive supply costs, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing industry executives and analysts. The move is hoped to bring the company in line with competitor Dell Computer, the Journal reported.
Dell could become the world's largest personal computer seller within the next year or two, as it takes sales from IBM, the current global leader, and Compaq, the world's third-largest computer maker, analysts said. |
