I find it remarkable that you do not accept an admission by the government as to the amount of the fraud unpersuasive. That would be adequate evidence in a court of law if a suit were filed against the government, but apparently it is not satisfactory to you.

As regards the rest of your post regarding the actions the government is going to take, I can only say it is about time.

Now we need to see if they act effectively. Too often we pass a law with the usual claim. We hear them say over and over again We have passed this law and whatever will never happen again.

Passing the law is not the equivalent of solving a problem. If the measures they intend to use are as you described:

" Proposed regulations being unveiled today seek to crack down on Medicare and Medicaid fraud by subjecting operators of certain medical firms to fingerprinting and stopping payments when credible fraud allegations are made, documents show....".I doubt they will work

I have a friend who is works in fraud prevention for a major bank and he thinks the same methods the banks use with appropriate changes to reflect the difference in the industries is the best way to go. So who knows. Given the governments past record, I doubt they will get it right.

This is one time I would like to be proven wrong.
