The thing about market share is that once a market is no longer expanding, market share is the only source of growth. In an expanding market, one can lose market share while still maintaining growth. Apple seems to have the formula tweaked to its optimal advantage, by not sacrificing margins for market share until growth starts to become an issue. At that point Apple will begin to compete with itself on margins using differentiated products. You might say Apple puts the cart (growth) before the horse (market share) to carry the best margins in the industry.
