Here is a little tidbit from Newport's (NEWP) FAQ page. (Newport is a wordwide distributor of Lightpath's catalog/products)

Q: How do the LightPath axial gradient index lenses compare to achromats and aspheres?

A: The LightPath lenses provide diffraction limited performance in a single element. There are no cemented surfaces to reduce laser damage threshold as found in
achromats or high surface scatter common in molded aspheres. The focusing ability of the axial gradient index lenses surpasses that of achromats, getting more
energy into a smaller spot. The LightPath lenses, however, are not as well correted for color as an achromat.
