Well you are certainly the exception, AOL has the worst access in the business , and they cant compete with any local ISP as for fast access to News groups or the Web, not a chance. AS for the AOL chat rooms, they are ok if you want to be totally censored as to what you can say, Internet IRC is much better, although IRC has become a bit lagged.
The online industry is not in its infancy, they were around before most of the local ISP's. But if AOL works for you then thats great, but considering I spend about 60 hours a month on line I would prefer to spend a lot less money for better service with my local ISP.
The only people that I know that still use AOL are those who use it for E-mail and the chat rooms , all others that I know dumped AOL for a local ISP, the ratio is about 10 to 1 against AOL.
My biggest problem with AOL is they charge way to much for to little time online and dont offer full internet access, plus accessing the Web is so slow its not worth the bother most of the time. Plus their commercials on TV are very misleading, "world wide e-mail" they try to mislead people who dont know any better by using the word "World Wide"
so that people who dont know any better will associate that with the "World Wide Web". As for all the magazines they offer on line, big deal, it costs a lot less to just purchase them rather than spending
hours online reading them. I could go on and on but I think you probably got the point , I dont like AOL :-]
