CBOE to List LEAPS(R) with January 2000 Expirations on 57 Stocks

CHICAGO, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE)
on Monday, May 19, will list LEAPS(R) (Long-term Equity AnticiPation
Securities(R)) with January 2000 expirations on 57 stocks.
For these 57 option classes, the LEAPS with January 1998 expirations will
convert to standard options on Monday, May 19, and their ticker symbols will
change to the standard option symbols.
CBOE, which lists 120 equity LEAPS, will introduce January 2000
expirations for the balance of its equity LEAPS listings in June and July.
Equity LEAPS trade in units of 100 shares of stock per contract, have
American-style exercise and settle in stock. Trading hours are 8:30 a.m.
to 3:10 p.m. Chicago time.
Open interest in equity LEAPS has increased dramatically since CBOE
developed and launched the product in October 1990. At the end of April 1997,
open interest in CBOE equity LEAPS was 1.97 million contracts (representing
197 million shares of stock).
CBOE also lists LEAPS on eight stock indices, based on 1/10th the value of
their respective underlying indices. They are OEX LEAPS(R) and SPX LEAPS(R)
(based on the S&P 100(R) and S&P 500(R)); CBOE's Internet, Oil, Technology,
and Mexico indices, the Nikkei 300 and Russell 2000(R). In addition, CBOE
lists LEAPS on interest rates.
