Nokia Completes Tests in Revolutionary Cost Saving Radio Technology For 3G
Nokia Smart Radio Concept can help operators build profitable 3G business
HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 2000--Nokia has successfully completed field testing of the unique Nokia Smart Radio Concept (SRC) designed to help mobile operators reduce capital investments during initial rollout of 3G networks. The tests also included the completion of WDCMA indoor field tests; verifying the performance of a number of solutions to provide 3G indoor coverage.
The high bit rates needed to provide seamless 3rd generation services demand good coverage and sufficient capacity throughout the WCDMA network service area. With the Nokia SRC, launched earlier this year, operators can improve capacity by up to 75% with roughly 30 % fewer sites than would be otherwise required with traditional network rollout methods.
The dedicated indoor coverage that were tested included passive distributed antenna systems and fiber optical distributed systems. The co-siting of WCDMA and GSM in the same indoor antenna system was also successfully tested.
