I agree with your observations. However, nobody refers to the 1975-83 period as a bull-market even though the small-cap value sector did something like 30% annualized during that time period (btw, inflation was running -- or galloping, at annualized rates of 12% to 14% during that time-frame). As far as the chroniclers are concerned, the bull-market didn't start until August 1982 when the large-caps finally started moving up decisively.

This may not exactly be my father's bear market but I don't think it is far too different from that either.
