[LSI always seems to be marching to the beat of another drummer
aren't they. Last year they were at 65% fab utilization around
mid year and really hurting and everyone else was pretty much
ga ga and very happy. Then this year as LSI was moving fast from
70% to 80% to 90+% utitlization the industry was going the other
way with fab utilization decreasing sharply. Amazing - all I
have to say is that LSI is doing something differently !
now
convert that into cash... - somewhat facetiously but somewhat right -
I think the connection is the communications portion of the business - I think this part is marching to a different beat from the PC side which is what most other companies react to - it is likely not a
coincidence that Tellabs et al are complaining of lower business in the sector and LSI's business vanishing so to speak - like I said only partially true because LSI is more diversified but I suspect there is a smidgeon of truth in here. Am keeping an eye on the networkers as well.]

If the data in the last post was right - PCs at say 40%, communications at 20% for the entire industry - then no wonder LSI (pre - Symbios) is different and everyone is struggling to figure out what the &&^&^^%%$#% is going on.

The component percentages for LSI are completely out of whack relative to the industry as a whole.

LSI Industry

PC <5% 30-40%

communications 36% 20%

(consumer
electron.) 30% guess < 10%

(high end
computing
including high
end
storage) 31% guess ~ 20%

autos <1% something

+ whatever else...

Small wonder then - we zig industry zags, & when we zag
everyone else zigs
<ggg>

interesting...

Shane.
