Sounds just like the finnish congress when still time to
decide, and in many families, when the kids are getting out of
control, explain until you fall asleep, I'm listning.

Takes a little time, but if handled with respect the next
morning, or a helping hand reached out already in the middle
of the explanations, good for the future.

Some might call it "face saving", others constructive and
realistic improvements.
