Bear Love

The Spear Report: brief introduction to their NewsLetter

Executive Summary

The stock market has been creeping higher, but seems to lack conviction. We think the current behavior is more evidence of "The Bear." We advise: learn to love the Bear, or suffer. There are two strategies at your disposal: one is to do our homework and gradually average-in to the best stocks in the world while they are on sale. Apple (AAPL) is a case in point. We'll take our time, however, as bear markets tend to last 12-24 months.

The other approach is to continue to direct our attention and concentrate holdings in the mini-bull markets that populate the investing landscape. We describe these special niches each week. The one we highlight this week is Brazil. Brazil may lack China's extreme work and savings ethic, but in terms of crude oil it's the Saudi Arabia of Latin America. Below, we profile its economic leader PetroBras (PBR). The stock is a bit dear from a valuation standpoint, but consider averaging-in and holding for the long run.

The TSR Timing Model remains at 0% invested and 100% cash.
