insulator- Maybe I can help. I spoke with Gary last Thursday just before c-ball did. I was not going to mention this because I agree very closely with futura's opinion on talking and telling. But, I have no secrets here, just info.
It was the first time he and I had talked... Gary returned my phone call from a message I left earlier in the week. He was taking the morning to return phone calls before the long weekend started.
When I spoke with him, it was a very upbeat conversation... mostly on HIS part. Let me just say that, from my end of the phone line, I could tell that I was having a conversation with a genuinely enthusiastic individual. This was not someone who was putting on a show for my benefit. As I said, we had never spoken together before, but the communication was unmistakable; we were giddy about the near future prospects after just about 3 minutes of discussion. But, during this brief conversation, he told me something that essentially conflicted with what C-ball posted within the half hour and what you just copied and pasted in your message. I was quite surprised to read what crystalball wrote in view of my conversation with Gary.
When I spoke with Gary, he was pretty clear that he would not put out any PR's this week. I asked him why. He told me that he didn't feel that the markets would have all the attention yet from after the New Year's weekend. Also, he did not want to waste the PR while only having two MMs. In his words, they're "having their way with us". He said that he was getting pressured by Mensch (he did not specify who at Mensch) to put out PR, but he was adamant about not issuing any news yet.
After I read c-ball's post, I called back in to Gary, but he had already left for the day. The next day he called me back again and I asked him about the confilct between our conversation and what C-ball had written. Gary told me that he was re-thinking the matter after he and I spoke and that what he mentioned to crystalball was what his inclination was at the time they spoke.
Thus, you see, this is a matter of seeing the dynamics of a company head during an agonizing decision-making process... not the deception of someone covering over a sinister plan. Unfortunately, we often hear what we wish to hear. If we eagerly jump to our personal conclusions and then post these to everyone else on the board as gospel, then we are all set up for a disappointment. This is why I decided at the time not to speak of the matter publicly. It was evident to me that he was weighing the matter very carefully, "trying on" the different possibilities and feeling how they fit.
Evidently, he has decided that, in view of the market's tumult so far this week, coupled with the aforementioned factors, we would be better served when attentions are not diverted by the panic-prone commentators on a huge market correction. Rather than being the little kid up on a stage singing a song in a spotlight while all eyes quietly watch and all ears listen, the tyke is liable to be trampled underfoot in a bustling byway, unseen and unheard.
While it is unfortunate that all this comes at the end of what has been a long time coming, why spoil it now when we can have twice the impact or more next week? Well, that's my take on the whole matter and I am not going to vilify either Gary Ackles or Mensch at this juncture for holding on to the PR just a few days more in view of this wild, post-holiday madness.
