>>Now, the n.hand should come up with a way to plug into a PC. These two devices become your e: and f: drives (assign your favorite letters) on your PC or Laptop.<<

Actually it is probable that n.hand disks (maybe "Clik" after tomorrow) will be compatible with Zip drives via a caddy. When n.hand was first announced by IOM, management expressed an intent to employ such a caddy, though I'm not positive that they have been able to accomplish this. Handheld devices with a n.hand/Clik drive may be an attractive option for consumers who own Zip drives (and there are 10 million Zip drives out there currently and will be in excess of 20 million this time next year).

As for speculation that digital camera makers and other handheld device OEMs would not want a mechanical drive in their products - don't be so sure of this. IOM is very savvy. They conduct alot of market research and manufacture products that people want. If this product was not feasible then IOM wouldn't be attacking this market with such vigor (n.hand is their featured product at next weeks Comdex). Also don't underestimate IOM's marketing muscle. It is commonly argued that the Zip and Jaz are inferior to many competing products yet IOM outsells their competitors at a startling rate.

Tomorrow look for an official rollout of the n.hand/Clik drive with the potential for announcements that some handheld device makers intend to include the drive in select products by the second half of 1998. (My money is on a Kodak/Iomega agreement. Kodak partnered with IOM last year during the "Zip Across America" promotion).

In sum, I wouldn't sell SNDK stock just because of IOM's n.hand. But I would view the n.hand as a direct competitor to flash memory and not simply a "complementary" product. SNDK definitely has a head start with so many OEMs lined up. However, the market for handhelds is still in its infancy and IOM has plenty of time to catch up. Should be fun to watch this market develop and see who comes out on top.

Best of luck,
-nk
