Scott, you caught me red-handed with my Luddite remarks re: storing personal financial info on a remote server! I should have qualified the statement with a big fat "at the present time". The web is not secure enough, fast enough, or reliable enough (IBM.net is my ISP, one of the best, and there are connect problems even with Big Blue, though not admittedly very often). Your analogy to prior generations being afraid of storing their $$$ in the banks strikes me as valid as well.
I do believe however that companies like Intel and Sun who have both jumped in to the 'server farm' biz with both feet are going to have to come up with some very nifty guarantees to their end users that their data will be protected from prying eyes. Can you imagine Chase and Bank of America storing their stuff side by side? SAP and People Soft? etc. etc.
(BTW, I do back up like religously but, no, I don't keep it off-site; hypocritical I know). Thanks for catching me. Best, Mike Doyle
