As I have learned it, Europe is all that is East of the Atlantic, North of the Mediterranean (and Black Sea), and West of the Ural ... :-) Otherwise, I am with you, of course, dear fellow.


As you have likely guessed it, I was referring to the institutional Europe, not to the geographical definition of Europe. Hence, according to the same institutional/technocratic definition of Europe, Switzerland is not part of Europe.....

Besides, it's a French usage to indiscriminately refer to "Europe" as both the geographical entity (ie from Gibraltar to the Urals) and the European Union proper. In the past, we used to talk of the CEE (Communaut‚ Economique Europ‚enne) but today, the new French acronym is awful: UE, that is, Union Europ‚enne; so, in everyday language, we just talk of "Europe" instead of "UE".
