true the smaller towns have more charm. better as there are less crowds... (especially, less tourists) :)
pictures.... (below)
this is in a small village near Orvieto...
these rooftops remind me of the view from a house my grandfather had in a small mining town in the mountains... as kids, we used to buy many many firecrackers (and i mean REAL firecrackers, meaning they were tied to a stick, you would set them up, light them and run... the things would fly about 40 or 50 feet up, and detonate with a tremendous explosion... (particularly at night they were great !). you would NOT want to get caught with the damned thing exploding in your hand because they would probably blow off your hand... -g- *no particularly safety warnings labels then*; remember this was a mining town and they used TNT for most purposes... these firecrakers -i suppose were a 'toned down' version of such cartridges.
anyway, when i was a kid i would buy these things, set them on the a small wall that was at the end of the front yard ---> which overlooked the town just like in the picture below... and fire at will -g
the rooftops in that town were predominantly tin roofs, so they were more resistant than the otherwise clay roofs in the picture... i always wondered why nobody ever complained... or perhaps they did and my grandfather never said a word... to this day... in the rare instance that i go back... i try to recreate those glorious days of firing at the town... great memories for sure ! and yes, it was particularly satisfying to fire at night, looking at the brilliant blast in the darkness.... good thing they never ever fired back
the best part was to fire at the gigantic church steeple of the town... it felt really good, i used to imagine i was fighting the inquisition -lol
