AMAT results:

Headline: "AMAT surpasses MSFT as the most highly profitable (pro-forma) company on earth, with over 29 billion dollars of profits (pro-forma) this quarter."

This quarter sucked on a GAAP basis, but it sucked slightly less than last quarter. We slashed 40% of our workforce, thus decreasing losses 30%, since we didn't have to pay all those people.

We cut capex by 95%, but we expect the industry to increase sharply in the 4th quarter 2002. A V shaped recovery. In light of this bright outlook, we are immediately firing 70% of our remaining staff in order to increase marketshare.
