Gibberish and colorful ranting are fine in conversation, and perfectly acceptable in an SI post (though the Czar might disagree). Writing intended for publication is another matter altogether: colorful ranting will most often leave your readers confused, and editors will make your life miserable. It's largely a question of volume. A paragraph of ranting is fun, 5 pages of ranting is a mess.

The rules do not necessarily confine, and knowing them allows you to be spontaneous and comprehensible at the same time.

On the rule for breaking rules I will stand my ground. Break them if you must, but know what you're doing and why. At least when the deputies of the Czar arrive to mete out punishment, you'll have an argument to justify your action. Not that it will help.

Yes, it is a bit anal. But as has been pointed out before, this is a bit of an anal thread. Some of us actually pick these nits for a living, so please forgive our little obsessions.
