I think Cheney will be eased out, but more out of concern for his old age than because of the Iraq mishap (although this cannot help). Expect Cheney to call a press conference late next year announcing that his doctors have warned him of the health risks of a strenuous twelve month election campaign and advised him against it.

Bush Jr will then bestow on him the presidential medal of freedom, pundits will fawn over his record and he'll quitely fade, as he has been doing for the last four months or so...
