Developing greener energy sources will be good for our economy, our environment, and reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy. And it's inevitable. Oil will run out. The sooner we start, the better for everyone. It's common sense good policy.

If we can develop greener energy sources that are also economical and don't reduce our standard of living, certainly. And in the long run, it probably is inevitable. But the issue is do we need the government to forestall current economical energy sources (like coal and oil) now and develop crash government programs to develop alternatives? Thats what we've done with corn-based ethanol and no one thinks its a good idea except those benefiting financially from the boondoggle.

Shouldn't we let the market develop new sources over time? Vs developing an energy command economy?

Government funded health insurance will improve health care and reduce costs.

One or the other of those claims could be believable. Not both. If other countries are an indicator, costs will be held down by de facto rationing of health care to the elderly with waiting periods for things like surgeries, MRI's etc. That's not improved health care.

it will remove the burden of providing health care from employers which will make our businesses more competitive.

Yeah, unless you saddle business with higher taxes to pay for the government health care. If we want to make our businesses more competitive, a more direct way would be to cut taxes on businesses. That would be even better policy.

It's you conservatives who get all hysterical and overwrought anytime anyone wants to change anything...

One reason is we don't trust government to do things better than private individuals and groups do. And pretty much all of the changes liberals want involve strengthening government and reducing the role of individuals and non-governmental institutions.
