In this month's IEEE Communications magazine there is a section called Wireless Broadband Access for the Home and Mobile User (June issue not on website yet), featuring several articles on e.g. future broadband multimedia satellite systems, onboard satellite processing, satellite multicast and web caching, and LMDS systems. The one that I--for some reason--had to read first though is about a broadband wireless metropolitan area network using--shall we say--"very low earth orbit satellites." It's called the HALO (for high altitude long operation) network.
