The new Dell resembles the old Dell in one way, which is that of setting new highs about every three months
June high 44 Sept high 49 Dec high 53 Mar high (58 est?)
July low 33 Aug low 38 Oct low 43 Jan low=?( 43)?
Conclusion. We seem to be at a low , with a potential high
of ~58 coming up ( I would guess in Feb earnings run-up).
(to be expected when company growing 40 to 50 % /yr)
As far as moving out of Dell somewhat, I tried that in 1997 and
1998 and it failed. The crums I picked could not keep up with Dell, I moved the money back each time one failed - thus ended up 97% Dell
in Dec 1998.
It took a trigger to put me back to work, make a change, and that
happened in May when I had to sell some 7000 Dell because the broker
changed the margin from 70% to 50%.
I have never regreted doing that( building up Qcom Jdsu etc),
because all summer and fall the bears have cranked Dell up and down
and every 3 months I would have been close to a margin call!
Its also a sweet revenge on the Dell bears who have apparently
(check Dells price action during options expiration week) manipulated the stock mercilessly. The yellow-bellied chickens don't fool around much with Qcom or Jdsu because thats too dangerous a game, at least
in the near future.
