dailynews.yahoo.com

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of Intel Corp.(Nasdaq:INTC - news), the world's largest semiconductor maker, and its chief rival, Advanced Micro Devices Inc.(NYSE:AMD - news), rose in extended-hours trading on Thursday after bullish forecasts from the two high-tech heavyweights.

Intel headed up to $34.83 in after-hours trading from its close of $34.16 on the Nasdaq, while AMD climbed to $17.20 in extended hours from its New York Stock Exchange (news - web sites) finish of $16.25.

Intel said after the bell it sees fourth-quarter sales at the high end of its prior forecast. AMD said after the close it expected higher sales in the fourth quarter and anticipated it will return to profitability in the second quarter of 2002.

The Nasdaq 100 after-hours indicator jumped 0.73. Stocks had a lackluster day during the regular session as investors paused after a powerful two-day run-up.
