yeah definitely wrt the greed thing. I am a hiring manager (line mgr) so I was not happy with the greed aspect of trying to hire people.

Its just getting really tough to play the race card anymore given the makeup of corporate america, the analyst community etc. When affirmative action proposals come down from management (Hewlett Packard has one of these), they are usually couched as if there is some sort of bias towards a US-born european workforce. The guidelines say you have to hire somebody from a certain racial or ethnic background to fill out the "dept" which might be ok if you had say 6 white people and 2 indians and one chinese in a group of 9. But the reality is you probably have 5 indians and 4 chinese and you have one open slot and are being told it has to be "non white". I mean its really out of control. The amazing thing is any trip to SF or NYC or LA illustrates this pretty clearly.

Now on the issue of affirmative action in college admissions. Right now Berkeley discriminates against asians (or they did when I was in school there) because if they didn't there would be a disproportionate number of asians at Berkeley. Personally its ok with me that they abolish affirmative action but for my particular group it would mean my family would be less likely to be able to attend Berkeley.
