About Q3-97 expectations

The numbers posted by Elmo from various sources (-$.08 to -$.15) appear to be rosy. If one follows their guidance in the conference call, -$.20 (excluding layoff charges) is more likely. However, they maybe able to improve the results by:

1. Taking credit for the 20M in reserve from Q2, about $.06.
2. Reduce expenses by an additional 10M (from 280M to 270M), about 03.

The net result would be around -$.11

About Q3 Announcement

According to the company, Q3 results will be announced on 8/20 after the market closes (10% chance), or on 8/21 after the market closes (90% chance). In either case, this is good news. Typically, when the results are bad, the announcement comes at the end of the month. Q4-96 results which were good (although padded by channel stuffing) were announced early. From the announcement date, I expect Q3 results to meet or slightly exceed expectations.

Regards

Salah
