wbmw, If I were mocking up something I would use the most available ( off the self ) components to minimize cost and assure myself adequate supply. Why would the Msft team that designed the xbox go out of its way to go against all that and then switch to the above philosophy at the last minute? It just makes no sense from a business point or an engineering point. The only reason I can see is that at the time, Intel cpus were selling at a very high premium to the equivalent AMD cpus and that might have been the ONLY reason why Msft chose AMD initially. All Intel would have to do is at least match AMD's price and assist Msft with the switch from the AMD design to an Intel design ( or did NVDA do this all on their own? ).
