Actually, if Intel was like most larger corporations, it would have no idea whether or not the XBox processor was "truly" profitable (or not). The closest anyone gets is measuring profitability on a GAAP basis, and when it comes to individual subgroups, there's such argument over various allocations that there usually is little bearing on the reality of GAAP, much less "actual" reality. One of the consultant firms' most profitable projects is measuring the cost structure of a company's product line
