Here's one answer to your question, Mark! Instead of a hypothetical or an opinioned answer, since they upset you so much, how about an example from history:

US army in WW2 concentrated on destroying by air the Germans' prime ball-bearing factory at Swinemunde, stating that without ball-bearings, their military would be rendered inoperable.

Can you extrapolate that real-life senario to our current military, or even to our industrialized society?
