Spiral, You have hit on something regarding irrationality. As crazy as the terrorists are in our minds, they are perfectly sane folks albeit cruel and inhuman. So what do they value? Those should be the potential pre-announced targets, if they do something horrific. The one thing all muslims can (probably) agree on is the holiness of several cities in the Mideast. Will bin laden be willing to trade mecca for NY? His behaviour since 9/11 suggests not, culminating in his transparent failed attempt to get Kerry elected with his "conciliatory" speech to the american people. Bush is doing to bin laden what reagan did to the soviets and that is "scaring them straight." Doesnt mean they wont engage us in iraq or elsewhere but they certainly do know where the line is drawn.
