I see that the pundits are complaining that the Bush girls are being held to a higher standard because they're from a Republican family. Is this fair? No, everyone should be treated equally.

However, Republicans sometimes bring this scrutiny on themselves by demanding impossibly high standards of personal conduct from others, and then squawking when they get caught in some type of impropriety. It smells of hypocrisy.

For example, the Republicans on the Supreme Court recently held that any of us can be arrested, handcuffed, searched & hauled off to prison for such crimes as failure to fasten a seatbelt or jaywalking. The Democrats on the Court said this was an unreasonable extension of governmental power.

So, when a Republican is next spotted with an unfastened seat belt, of course Democrats will call for that person's arrest. Live by the sword...
