His father owned a liquor store and in my family who might have been considered snobs in this area anyone who made money off
of selling liquor to others and taking the pay checks of men
who would not bring it home to their wives but who sat in a bar drinking (my mother's Father a good Irishman) ...
so I don't think much of the American dream that he cries over.

That is if I still believed all I learned as a child.
