S and L's: great post Tom. People do not understand that our government is being run by self interest lobbyists. Mostly for large corporations.

Anything the poor get is residue pennies provided by those with nothing but a conscience to motivate them.

Cheney had the oil companies write the oil legislation, and refused to release the names, but----

Thousands of lobbyists are writing and monitoring self interest fiscal legislation constantly.

Bush has not vetoed one bill. Why, one asks? Well, to put it simply, it is because it is mostly republican pork as they control both houses of congress and Bush and CHENEY do not care how much they give away to their fat cat supporters. As long as they are republican.

Two footnotes to this rant:

1) many people do not understand that when most large political contributions are made the contributor expects something in return.

2) Tom Delay unabashedly would not even receive constituent's who had not contributed to the republican party. True! Good democracy there!

It seems to me we have gone down two dead end paths which will seriously undermine our democracy.

1) lobbyists

2) gerrymandering districts so that 96% of representatives are reelected each year. tom Delay was the king of that and his actions were held up by our non partison supreme court (that was sarcasm).
