MapInfo Unveils SpatialWare Extender for IBM DB2 Universal
Database

Berlin Water Authorities Begins Implementation, Anticipates Savings in Time and Money

TROY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 1999-- MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ/NM:MAPS - news) today announced the availability of
its SpatialWare® Information Extender for the IBM DB2 Universal Database (UDB). It allows DB2 users to store, manage, analyze and
manipulate spatial data integrated with their corporate information. Customers using a SpatialWare-extended DB2 can now combine
traditional analysis and data management capabilities with powerful spatial analysis to enhance key business processes.

''Our ability to provide advanced and integrated business intelligence solutions to IBM DB2 users around the world further validates the
value of our SpatialWare technology,'' said John Cavalier, president and CEO of MapInfo. ''Together with IBM, we now offer our joint
customers a new and seamless way to turn massive amounts of data into useful information that can be deployed within their enterprise-wide
applications. The result will be better business intelligence and higher returns on their investment in both companies' technologies.''

SpatialWare stores and manages complex spatial data in corporate relational database servers and delivers SQL-based spatial querying. The
SpatialWare Information Extender embeds SpatialWare's spatial data analysis capabilities within the DB2 server environment allowing
advanced spatial access, analysis and modeling.

Berlin Water Authorities uses MapInfo technology throughout the company as an information system to provide all departments with actual
data such as documentation on the status of the sewerage network and the administration of construction sites. They have recently begun
implementing SpatialWare in conjunction with their DB2 database and expect significant savings in time and money.

''We are currently in the pilot phase of implementing the SpatialWare Information Extender for DB2 and expect that not only our data but also
the geographical attributes will be administered in a single powerful database system,'' said Karin Heyder, data processing department,
project manager for the MapInfo-Project at Berlin Water Authorities. ''By implementing the SpatialWare Information Extender for DB2, we
will create a system that saves financial and maintenance resources since we will be able to eliminate the data conversion, avoid redundant
data, receive always up-to-date information, control access privileges and relieve our network.''

''Spatial information analysis is a key capability for enterprises reaching to the next level of business intelligence,'' said Jim Kelly, vice
president, data management marketing, IBM Software Solutions. ''IBM DB2 Universal Database in combination with the MapInfo
SpatialWare Information Extender makes it possible for customers to attack new classes of business problems and to better understand
relationships among, for example, franchise locations and high-potential customers.''
