Last Tuesday, Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, predicted that 2010 “will be a year of recovery.” On Friday, Americans learned that the gross domestic product fell 6.2 percent in the last quarter of 2008, suggesting that the recession may be deeper than anticipated.
