Their is no ultimate solution. You hold together what you can while you can. Keep this in mind: "Only the dead have seen the end of war." - Plato Every possible solution to the mess that US ME policy comes back to those two words: Jewish lobby. The problem is here at home, not 6,000 miles away. And I'm not anti-Semitic, BTW. I will give Emile Vidrine, the SI Gauleiter, as reference on that. He and I have gone many, many rounds. The problem with that hydrogen fuel cell is getting the hydrogen. The best and cheapest method is electrolyzing water. But that requires electricity. Where does it come from? And "solar" as an answer won't do. If it would, why wouldn't power companies already be using it.
