Maybe for the same reason that in the not-so-distant
past Dell was offering PC600 DRDRAM only on certain models
under excuse of PC800 shortage, while other models,
at the same time, were exclusively equipped with
PC800 DRDRAM. This is called "compatibility issue"<g>.
I guess this 512MB restriction will be lifted after
an extra spin of i845D bridge.

Actually, the Paul's "1GB" is not exactly the last dream
of PC builder/user nowadays...
