Flint Energies Partners with GE Fuel Cell Systems to Market Fuel Cells in Georgia
WARNER ROBINS, Ga., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Flint Energies announced today that they have signed a memorandum of understanding naming Flint Energies as GE Fuel Cell Systems' exclusive distributor for residential- and small commercial-sized fuel cell systems in central and southern Georgia (an area covering all of Georgia south of LaGrange and Augusta).
GE Fuel Cell Systems and Flint Energies expect to begin selling
residential-sized systems in 2001 and small business-sized units by 2002.
Retail prices for the residential systems will be approximately $8,500 per
unit in 2001, and are expected to fall to below $4,000 by 2003. GE FuelCell Systems will initially provide Flint Energies with pre-commercial units for testing, and the two companies will collaborate on market development.
Fuel cells are designed to provide 100% of the electricity requirements of a home or small business at the point of consumption. Fuel cells generate
electricity through an electrochemical process, instead of combustion, that
combines generally available fuels, such as natural gas or propane, with air
and water. Fuel cells produce a fraction of the emissions of traditional
power generators, are virtually noiseless, and are expected to be about the
size of a dishwasher.
Fuel cells have the potential to provide an environmentally friendly and
cost-effective alternative for customers. According to Flint Energies
President/CEO Joe B. Cade, "This technology will provide homes and small
businesses a compact, efficient, reliable, clean, and economically
advantageous method of meeting their electricity requirements in the future.
Fuel cells are ideal for three distinct markets: one, as an environmentally
sound or "green power" source, two, for homes or businesses susceptible to
grid-related power outages - such as those caused by severe weather, and,
three, for new homes located so far away from current electric lines that
line
extensions becomes uneconomical."
