I agree 100% with what you say. But it may be the best we can get at this time. I am still hopeful that something better can be achieved but in the end i am not willing to have the US bogged down in a war that we may never be able to win. It is purely a cut your losses strategy if
a. the elections fail to bring any stablility to iraq or
b. announcing an end date fails to motivate the sunnis to clean up the mess themselves.
