Argyle tried to market independently of the CSO and came running back!This is also true of Russia who also believed that they could do a better job than De Beers and found out that this just wasn't true, they are also back in the De Beers/CSO fold.
Why do you believe that De Beers is in the business of just keeping Diamonds off the market? There is a great deal more to marketing diamonds than just selling them immediately on the open market.
De Beers understand the market fluctuations and release carefully graded and priced goods accordingly.
