Dude, Equilibrium, as I guess you know, right now has a single product called DeBabelizer. Equilibrium is a small company that was based in Sausalito, CA, the last time I checked.

DeBabelizer is a software product used by people who create the pictures you see on web pages and other places. A "cool graphic artist" might use DeBabelizer. (Cool graphic artists also like Photoshop, made by Adobe.)

DeBabelizer is a PC software product and also a Mac software product. One thing you could do with DeBalelizer is convert an image that is a .bmp into a .jpg file. But the product is more sophisticated than that.

See, equilibrium.com for a product description.

The CMGI press release is fascinating, if vague. I may have a little more information to post about the business significance of the DeBabelizer product, but if anyone else knows that would obviously be interesting.

The second part of the CMGI press release speaks of Equilibrium's "next generation of content infrastructure solutions." It refers to this as a "new initiative." It goes on to say, "Planned release of Equilibrium's infrastructure products is set for the second calendar quarter of 2000."

So what this new thing is we don't know. The press release says, "Equilibrium's automation solutions permit Web site content to be published, changed and updated in order to meet the needs of the end user." What this means I do not know, but it is not a stretch to think that the new products help web sites manage the graphics they put up on their sites.

The press release goes on, "Equilibrium is well positioned to provide the first truly dynamic content infrastructure for the Internet." Dynamic means something changes, so it is not a stretch to imagine that the new product will allow web sites to offer changing content, most likely changing graphics. Given the nitty gritty nature of the existing product, it's likely this means that it is software that allows a web site to manage it's graphics and make fast changes. (It's one thing to change the photo on your personal home page; it's another thing to update the graphics on huge web sites that contain hundreds of thousands of pages. Equilibrium's product might perform this type of function.

My sense is Equilibruim is not what most people imagine when they think of an "internet company," i.e., a .com address, an idea and a handful of Stanford grads, not yet making a profit. Equilibrium is a real company with a nitty gritty product and they've been around for a while.

So, what up with your XML question??? Do you think they are using XML in their new tool?
